- Focus on your Thesis or Theory. Brainstorm some ideas of what you need to research to support or disprove you thesis. Prioritise your research. Make a note of the most important aspects of any work that you will be citing.
- Check with your Tutor. At this point it may be an idea to run your plan past your tutor. They be able to give you some additional ideas and advice on the way that you present your work.
- Referencing. Make sure that you are aware of the referencing system that you have to use. If it is a system that you have not used before try checking online for some quick-fix guidelines.
- List of References. Make your list as you find suitable references. This will save you a lot of time as you will be adding to the list as you work. It is not unusual for students to leave this until the end and run out of time to complete (1 page)
- Start on your Introduction. Remember that this is a draft. Do not try to write the completed work right from the start. In your introduction add why you find this topic interesting and how you developed your thesis (1 page)
- Draft the main part of the paper. This should be over two pages. Develop each supporting idea separately and remember to balance your thesis with evidence that does not support your ideas.
- Conclusion. Working from the evidence that you have cited in the main part of the paper start drawing conclusions. If you have given three main arguments that support your thesis then tackle each of these issues in turn. Tie up all loose ends.
- Editing and Proofreading. You may need to produce more than one redraft. Get a friend or colleague to read though your work. Get a professional proof-reader to help you to refine your work.
By following all of these steps you can submit your work with confidence.
Good Luck!
